There is something about free verse that is so beautiful and simple and Lai's book has such gorgeous prose. You also really connect with the main character, Ha. I felt like I was right beside her when I read this book in an hour and a half. I was happy when she was and I was sad when she was sad, but most of all I felt her most of all when she felt lonely. This book definitely deserves the awards it has been given because Inside Out and Back Again is an emotional story that made me realize my love for historical fiction.
